Gordie Howe is a hero
Gordie Howe was born in a farmhouse in Floral, Saskatchewan. He was one of nine children of his two parents Kate and Ab Howe. Howe was mildly dyslexic growing up, but was physically bigger than the other kids early on. Six feet tall in his mid-teens, doctors were scared of a calcium deficiency and encouraged him to strengthen his spine with chin-ups. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordie_Howe At fifteen years old he was invited to a tryout for the New York Rangers in Brooklyn but he did not make the team. A year later, he was noticed by Detroit Red Wings scout Fred Pinckney. He was signed by the Red Wings and assigned to their junior team in Galt, Ontario. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordie_Howe The hockey term, Gordie Howe hat trick, which includes a goal, an assist, and a fight, was coined after Howe in reference to his penchant for fighting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordie_Howe Was named Mr. Hockey because he was one of the best players of all time. http://www.mrandmrshockey.com/ Howe is one of a handful of NHL players who had an ambidextrous shot, and was capable of shooting both right and left.He finished with 2,421 games played, 1,071 goals, 1,518 assists, and 2,589 points.
